The Nova 1800 Salt Water Bath Pinhole Tester detects pinholes in magnet wire insulation according to JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard). The Nova 1800 consists of a power supply and a salt-water bath.
The power supply voltage is adjustable from 5 to 24 volts DC and a maximum current of 700 mA.
When the magnet wire coils are placed into the salt water-phenolphthalein solution, the presence of pinholes will allow electrolysis to occur. The change in pH will result in the salt water turning pink at the pinholes, thus indicating the presence of pinholes.
